Please watch our BSS Salisbury & Andover video to find out more about us…
BRAZILIAN SOCCER SCHOOL SALISBURY & ANDOVER IS AN INDIVIDUAL TECHNIQUE & SKILLS BASED DEVELOPMENT CENTRE THAT HELPS CHILDREN TO MAXIMISE THEIR POTENTIAL AND TO BECOME AS COMFORTABLE AND COMPETENT WITH THE FOOTBALL AS POSSIBLE. UNLIKE TEAM BASED COACHING THAT IS PRIMARILY CONCERNED WITH WINNING THE TEAM’S NEXT MATCH, OUR EMPHASIS IS ON EACH CHILD’S LONG TERM INDIVIDUAL DEVELOPMENT. CHILDREN ARE ENCOURAGED TO EXPRESS THEMSELVES, BE CREATIVE AND, MOST IMPORTANTLY, TO BE INSTINCTIVE AND SPONTANEOUS IN THEIR PLAY. OUR METHODS WORK FANTASTICALLY WELL ALONGSIDE A CHILD’S REGULAR TEAM TRAINING, BOTH PROFESSIONALLY AND LOCALLY, OR SIMPLY ON ITS OWN TO BECOME A MORE COMPLETE FOOTBALLER AND TO ENJOY THE BEAUTIFUL GAME. OUR ETHOS IS ABOUT IMPROVING EVERY CHILD REGARDLESS OF AGE OR ABILITY. WE CURRENTLY WORK WITH BEGINNERS RIGHT THROUGH TO PROFESSIONAL PLAYERS AND YOUNGSTERS AT PROFESSIONAL CLUBS. WE ARE NOT SIMPLY ABOUT FANCY “FLICKS & TRICKS” BUT ABOUT WORKING TOWARDS COMPLETE MASTERY OF THE FOOTBALL (INCLUDING THE BASICS) BEFORE EMBARKING ON TACTICAL TRAINING. ONE OF OUR UNIQUE FEATURES IS THE SKILLS BADGE SCHEME. THIS ACTS AS A PERSONAL TRAINING GUIDE HIGHLIGHTING AREAS THAT NEED IMPROVING INDIVIDUALLY. THE SCHEME GIVES PARENTS AND CHILDREN MEASURABLE FEEDBACK ON EACH CHILD’S CONTINUED PROGRESS. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO BROWSE OUR WEBSITE AND IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO TRY A SESSION THE FIRST SESSION IS ALWAYS FREE OF CHARGE. ‘The best gift you can give a child is the roots to grow and the wings to fly’ ___________________________________________________________

32 children took part in our last event of the summer holidays at Portway Junior School in Andover.
The children all took part in a “Challenge Chamberlain” event where the children had a go at beating Arsenal’s Premier league player, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s BSS Core Skill scores.
Our special guest for the event was football freestyler Tom Folan who dazzled everyone with his amazing skills and freestyle show. Our next planned event will be a three day Skill Spectacular during the October half-term. More details will follow shortly. NEW ARSENAL STAR BACKS OUR SOCCER SCHOOL! New Arsenal signing, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, is supporting the Brazilian Soccer School Salisbury & Andover after using the unique coaching methods whilst a player at Southampton FC. BSS Salisbury & Andover Head Coach, Perry Cocking, worked with the Arsenal youngster during their time together at the south coast club.
Alex said of the soccer school: “I became aware of the Brazilian Soccer School coaching methods through my friendship with Perry but it wasn’t until I was returning from injury last season that I used some of them for myself. I regularly had one to one coaching sessions with Perry using the ten core skills to help regain my fitness and sharpness before going back into full training. It was great fun and a lot more challenging than I thought! I would strongly recommend any young player to train with BSS Salisbury & Andover as it definitely helped my game and will improve players of all ages and abilities. I especially like the idea behind the new Academy and Development squad and I’ve got no doubt that I will be playing against some of its graduates one day! They help children regardless of ability, experience or any team they might play for, with the sole aim of rapidly improving them as individual footballers. The children of Salisbury & Andover are extremely lucky to have such great coaching on their doorstep. The soccer school is a special place which is why I’m thrilled to be supporting the project” Perry Cocking said of Alex: “Alex was a smashing lad to work with and all of us at BSS Salisbury & Andover would like to wish him the very best with his move to Arsenal. Alex is an example to all children of what can be achieved with hard work and dedication. Alex really benefited from our training methods and fully understands what we are trying to achieve in our area. We hope that he’ll be able to visit us in the near future and see what progress we are making.” SUMMER HOLIDAY COURSE FUN 2011! Our summer holiday courses were a huge success with over 70 children joining in the fun in Andover and Salisbury. Highlights included the Skill Skool Circuits, our BSS Street Striker competition and the children speaking to Arsenal’s new signing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on loudspeaker (picture below). FIVE RIVERS LEISURE CENTRE – SALISBURY
‘SUPER SUNDAY’ EVENT Our first Super Sunday event was a great success with BSS Islington providing the opposition for our school year 1, 2 and 3 players on Sunday July 31st 2011 at the Five Rivers leisure centre. There was a big crowd to watch some fantastic football and we hope this is the first of many similar events in the future. MORE TOURNAMENT SUCCESS! The BSS Academy (under 6’s & 7’s) squad had another successful tournament on Sunday 19th June. The squad (pictured above) won all 4 games in the Andover FC tournament scoring ten goals and conceding none. The Academy squad is made up of regular BSS players from both Salisbury & Andover from school years 1 & 2. Players are selected on good behaviour, a commitment to training and by reaching certain levels on the Core Skills section of our Skills Badge scheme. The Academy has been a great success since it started and we hope to expand into other age groups as soon as possible. Well done to all of you! TOURNAMENT DAY SUCCESS! 60 children took part in BSS Salisbury & Andover’s first ever tournament day on May 31st. The children were split across five different age groups playing with an FDS ball in the morning and a conventional ball in the afternoon. A Player of the Day trophy was awarded in each age group and every child received a special medal to commemorate the day. Two further tournament days are being planned for the summer and details will be sent out shortly. Congratulations to the following Players’ of the Tournament: Daniel Burdock Bruno Delvaux Fabian Delvaux Jake Bartlett Sophie Hammett Well done! BSS ACADEMY – TOURNAMENT SUCCESS! The BSS Academy squad took part in their first ever tournament on Sunday 8th May. The tournament was organised by Tidworth Royals FC and was held at Double Hedges in Bulford. The team played 5 games, winning 3 and drawing 2. “This was a great success for the team as they have never played together before and three of the team were playing a year above their age group. They showed some great skills and restricted the opposition to just one shot against them in the entire tournament.” Academy Coach – Perry Cocking The BSS Academy is made up of regular BSS players from both Salisbury and Andover. The Academy is currently running in under 6 and under 7 age groups with more age groups being set up soon. Selection for the Academy squad is based on a child’s core skills scores and each child has to have a good attitude towards training and learning. The core skills require a certain amount of practice and dedication to achieve and is a fantastic base line for selection. There are 10 different core skills that have been designed to make players as comfortable as possible with the ball. They are a mixture of ball coordination exercises and simple moves to beat players. All the moves are practiced regularly during our weekly sessions and the children should become very familiar with them over time. The Academy meet for 2 hours every fortnight for a free advanced coaching session using the best youth coaching methods from around the world. For more information please email p.cocking@icfds.com or call Perry Cocking (BSS Academy Head Coach) on 07876135770. SOUTHAMPTON FC STAR OPENS ACADEMY Our new Academy was officially launched on Sunday 3rd April with Southampton Football Club’s Dean Hammond as special guest. The new Academy, which is currently made up of under 6, 7 & 8 year old players, played an exhibition match against BSS Islington thoroughly impressing Southampton FC’s current Captain. “The children were absolutely fantastic and the level of skill and close control was unbelievably high for such young children. I’m glad I will be retired by the time they are older!” ROONEY JOINS BRAZILIAN SOCCER SCHOOLS! Wayne Rooney has enrolled his son Kai in a Brazilian Soccer School at just 16 months old. Wayne first became aware of the Brazilian Soccer School methods when he used them at his former club Everton in 1998. The Manchester United and England striker is apparently determined that his son will follow in his footsteps, and has signed him up with SOCATOTS, part of the Brazilian Soccer School coaching network. In Brazil kids are taught to play football almost as soon as they can walk, with players like Ronaldinho and Kaka famously having started as toddlers - though the emphasis is invariably on having fun playing with the ball and interacting with team-mates rather than the more formal skills coaching that is common in Europe. And Rooney hopes that some of the Samba flair will rub off on his lad, according to The Sun newspaper. "Wayne is encouraging Kai to get into football and has already bought him his first Everton kit, plus numerous United and England shirts," a friend of Rooney's told the paper. "He has mucked about with a ball with Kai from an early age and hopes his son will inherit his natural ability."
