BSS ACADEMY – TOURNAMENT SUCCESS!

20110508_5704_thumb2 20110508_5696_thumb2

The BSS Academy squad took part in their first ever tournament on Sunday 8th May. The tournament was organised by Tidworth Royals FC and was held at Double Hedges in Bulford. The team played 5 games, winning 3 and drawing 2.

“This was a great success for the team as they have never played together before and three of the team were playing a year above their age group. They showed some great skills and restricted the opposition to just one shot against them in the entire tournament.” Academy Coach – Perry Cocking

20110508_5642_thumb2 20110508_5646_thumb2

The BSS Academy is made up of regular BSS players from both Salisbury and Andover. The Academy is currently running in under 6 and under 7 age groups with more age groups being set up soon. Selection for the Academy squad is based on a child’s core skills scores and each child has to have a good attitude towards training and learning. The core skills require a certain amount of practice and dedication to achieve and is a fantastic base line for selection. There are 10 different core skills that have been designed to make players as comfortable as possible with the ball. They are a mixture of ball coordination exercises and simple moves to beat players. All the moves are practiced regularly during our weekly sessions and the children should become very familiar with them over time.

The Academy meet for 2 hours every fortnight for a free advanced coaching session using the best youth coaching methods from around the world. For more information please email p.cocking@icfds.com or call Perry Cocking (BSS Academy Head Coach) on 07876135770.

ROONEY JOINS BRAZILIAN SOCCER SCHOOLS!

Rooney--Kai2_thumb1

Wayne Rooney has enrolled his son Kai in a Brazilian Soccer School at just 16 months old.

Wayne first became aware of the Brazilian Soccer School methods when he used them at his former club Everton in 1998.

The Manchester United and England striker is apparently determined that his son will follow in his footsteps, and has signed him up with SOCATOTS, part of the Brazilian Soccer School coaching network.

In Brazil kids are taught to play football almost as soon as they can walk, with players like Ronaldinho and Kaka famously having started as toddlers - though the emphasis is invariably on having fun playing with the ball and interacting with team-mates rather than the more formal skills coaching that is common in Europe.

And Rooney hopes that some of the Samba flair will rub off on his lad, according to The Sun newspaper.

"Wayne is encouraging Kai to get into football and has already bought him his first Everton kit, plus numerous United and England shirts," a friend of Rooney's told the paper.

"He has mucked about with a ball with Kai from an early age and hopes his son will inherit his natural ability."

BSS GRADUATE SCORES FA CUP WINNER!

Micah-Goal_thumb2

Brazilian Soccer School Graduate Micah Richards scored the header that broke Reading's brave resistance on Sunday to set up an FA Cup semi-final confrontation between Manchester City and Manchester United at Wembley.

Micah attended BSS Leeds and has now made 157 appearances for Manchester City and has 12 full England caps.

Micah-BSS_thumb1

"I went to a Brazilian Soccer School as a youngster and it was interesting to try the different training techniques of the South Americans.

Their methods focus more on developing your touch and dribbling, and I think it has helped my game both as a defender and as an attacker" Micah Richards (Manchester City & England)

“I think Micah is a great advert for Brazilian Soccer Schools. It’s great to show those who think we are all about attacking flicks and tricks that we produce great defenders as well. Our methods are all about making players comfortable with the ball in whatever position they play. Hopefully one day it will be BSS Salisbury & Andover players scoring in the FA Cup!” – Perry Cocking (BSS Salisbury & Andover Head Coach)

As a precursor to the BSS Academy, BSS Salisbury & Andover put on an advanced coaching session on Tuesday 22nd February with guest coach Byron Andrew. Only players that are averaging level 2 or above on the Core Skills assessments were invited to take part in the free session at Wilton, Salisbury.

The session was a fantastic success with all the players being put through their paces for an hour and a half at a very intense level. “I’ve been involved in football from grass routes level right through to the Premiership and I’ve never seen a coaching session of such a high intensity and skill level. All the players deserve so much credit for their hard work and amazing attitude!” Said Head Coach Perry Cocking afterwards.

More advanced sessions are being planned for the near future.

BSS STREET STRIKER COMPETITION

Street-Striker-Group-1_thumb3

BSS Salisbury & Andover’s first ever Street Striker tournament took place on Tuesday 22nd February and proved to be a great success. The competition was part of a three day holiday course at Harrow Way school in Andover.

25 children took part in 3 different age categories competing in 8 different individual events. The competition was designed to test the players on many different aspects of football and finished with each player trying to keep hold of as many of their points as possible by avoiding multiple moving targets whilst dribbling!

Congratulations to Ben Witts, Ben Wyatt and Logan Broe for being crowned BSS Salisbury & Andover’s first ever Street Striker Champions!

There’s no secret to their success, it’s simply been down to their hard work, dedication and practice. JAKOB MEETS PREMIERSHIP STAR

Jakob and Reid Resize

Brazilian Soccer School (BSS) Salisbury & Andover player, Jakob Russell, was delighted to meet Sunderland player and BSS Salisbury & andover sponsor, Andy Reid, before their recent Premiership fixture with West Ham Utd. Jakob, who plays for local side Upper Clatford, hones his skills with Brazilian Soccer School Salisbury & Andover on a Wednesday at the Andover Leisure Centre, and a Saturday morning at Harrow Way School. Jakob was the lucky winner of a signed Sunderland shirt at BSS Salisbury & Andover’s Skills Badge launch, which led to the visit being arranged by Head Coach Perry Cocking and Jakob’s father, Scott Russell.

Andy went on to score a wonder free-kick during the game and later dedicated the goal to Jakob and the BSS Salisbury & Andover players. Andy, pictured with Jakob and his goal scoring boots, is currently playing some of the best football of his career and was only too pleased to meet Jakob and his family. “It was fantastic to meet Jakob and to see his enthusiasm for football. With Premiership games it’s difficult to visit the BSS kids in Andover so it was great to see Jakob come to a game. Perry keeps me regularly updated with the progress of the soccer school and the new link with AFC Bournemouth is a big step forward. I know the coaches are doing a great job and I hope to be able to visit BSS Andover soon”

Brazilian Soccer School Salisbury & Andover teaches individual skills & technique and is open to players of any ability from all local teams to help them improve. “Most teams are only able to train once a week so we give players the opportunity for extra coaching sessions to work on their individual technique. Jakob has been regularly attending our sessions and we were delighted to arrange for him to meet Andy.” said Head Coach, Perry Cocking

NEW LINK CREATED WITH AFC BOURNEMOUTH

Bournemouth 01

Brazilian Soccer School Salisbury & Andover has linked up with AFC Bournemouth to offer local talented youngsters a route into professional football. The scheme will be part of a long term association and will give Brazilian Soccer School players a clear development path into the professional game.

BSS Salisbury & Andover Head Coach, Perry Cocking, said of the scheme “AFC Bournemouth has a fantastic youth structure in place with Development Centres, Advanced Development Centres and a Centre of Excellence. BSS Salisbury & Andover players now have access to this alongside their unique technical development at the Brazilian Soccer School. Football has become such a big business that professional teams are recruiting an enormous amount of children at the moment. We wanted to make sure that our players would get looked after properly at every stage of their development. The percentage of children that actually make it to be a professional is incredibly small but we believe this will give them the best possible chance in the game. We were approached by a number of clubs, including one in the Premiership, but it was AFC Bournemouth that impressed us the most and we are delighted to link up with them.”

It’s not just the best players that will benefit from the scheme as events are being planned for all BSS Salisbury & Andover players including stadium tours, match tickets, tournaments and skill demonstrations on the pitch before AFC Bournemouth home games. The scheme will also see BSS coaches undertaking local scouting work for the club and a Brazilian Soccer School Academy being launched next year.

AFC Bournemouth Centre of Excellence Manager Jason Blake said "We are excited to be setting up an affiliation with the Brazilian Soccer School. Their emphasis on individual technique with the football is one we incorporate within our Technical Development Programme at AFC Bournemouth.  We feel that this is an area that players need to continue to practice and develop, even at professional clubs.  We are providing a pathway for the players that excel within the BSS environment to a professional club, via our Development Centres into the Centre of Excellence."

WORLD CHAMPION DAZZLES THE CROWDS!

Launch023 Resize

Brazilian Soccer School Salisbury & Andover launched their Skills badge Scheme on Saturday 15th August with World Football Freestyle Champion, John Farnworth, amazing the crowd with his performances.  Fifty-two children were at the Andover leisure Centre to watch John perform and to have a go at some of the Skills Badge moves that are part of the scheme. These included moves to beat players, turns, changes of direction, dribbling, juggling, floor to air moves, balances and traps. The scheme encourages children to spend as much time practicing with a ball, both at the Brazilian Soccer School, and at home.

John said of the scheme “The scheme is amazing and it’s how I got started. As children work through the levels they develop unbelievable skills and terrific control of the ball. It produces players that are completely two footed, have very quick feet along with great balance and coordination. The main thing for me though is the confidence it gives children with the ball which really helps them during matches for their clubs.”

John and children from the Brazilian Soccer School later went on to entertain the crowds at the Andover Big Festival. John, who’s visit was co-sponsored by Andover Sound, performed in the Big Top and was at the festival all day to help coach as many local children as possible.

ANOTHER FOOTBALLER ENDORSES COACHING METHODS

Danny-Mills-001

Former Premiership & England player Danny Mills is the latest footballer to endorse Brazilian Soccer Schools. Danny worked with Salisbury & Andover Head Coach, Perry Cocking, at Charlton Athletic FC and was sceptical at first until he took his son along to a session. Danny was so impressed that now both his sons train at Brazilian Soccer schools more than twice a week!

“Brazilian soccer coaching is great for young players, helping develop skills and ball control. Many under 10’s have more tricks and skills than I ever had. Perry has great enthusiasm for what he does and with the hard work and effort of the kids, major progress can be made. My own boys attend BSS and I believe it is a fantastic aspect of coaching.”

new street day 035

Twenty-four children from BSS Salisbury & Andover took part in a skills demonstration during the half-time interval of the Andover New Street Legends Vs Andover Sound charity match. The children performed moves such as the Ronaldo Chop, Robinho Stepovers and the Ronaldinho Elastic as well as getting a chance to freestyle their own skills and tricks. The 1000 strong crowd gave the children a great reception and we have already received three invitations to perform at different events. The next confirmed demonstration is at the Andover Big Festival on 15th August. If anyone involved in the demonstration would like a copy of the team photo (above) then please ask and we will e-mail you a copy. ANDOVER SOUND TRAIN WITH BSS ANDOVER

Kids with Andover Sound Presenters1

Presenters from North West Hampshire's Andover Sound joined the children from BSS Andover's Wednesday group at the Andover Leisure Centre. The presenters were put through their paces learning moves such as the Robinho stepovers and the Ronaldo Chop. The children then got a chance to play the Brazilian 5-a-side game of Futebol de Salao against the presenters. The children were keen to show their skills and gave the presenters a bit of a thrashing but the session was enjoyed by everyone involved!

Andover Sound are currently preparing for a charity match against Andover New Street Legends on May 30th at Foxcotte Park (KO 11:00AM). BSS Salisbury & Andover's coaches Perry Cocking and Paul O'Riordan will also be playing for the Andover Sound team! There will be lots of fun stuff to do on the day like a paint ball firing range and a bouncy castle. Andover Sound will also be broadcasting live from Foxcotte Park all day and of course the FA Cup final will be on the big screen in the afternoon. All money raised will be going to local charities.

The BSS Andover Wednesday group will aslo be doing a demonstration at half time of the match so please come and support them.

JUGGLE CLUB

BSS 072

To coincide with the juggling section of the skills badge scheme we have started a BSS Salisbury & Andover Juggle Club. Players are able to keep track of their highest recorded score on the website and compare themselves against players from other sessions in both Salisbury and Andover. This is for a bit of fun and to give the players targets that they can work towards.  Prizes will be awarded for the first player to reach 100 in the older age group and 50 in the younger.

BSS Harrogate run a similar scheme and have a 7 year old that recorded 4 on his first attempt when he joined and has now recently achieved 1435 (the highest score for all their age groups!) This is an extreme example but proves what can be achieved with practice and patience. They also say that it’s no coincidence that their best jugglers are also their best goal scorers.

PREMIERSHIP STAR BACKING FOR BSS SALISBURY & ANDOVER

Andy Reid Signed Shirt2

Sunderland F.C and Ireland's Andy Reid is so impressed by what he has seen of Brazilian Soccer Schools he has decided to get involved.

“I have known Head Coach, Perry Cocking since we worked together at Charlton Athletic and I’ve been really impressed with what he is trying to achieve in his local area of Salisbury and Andover. Brazilian Soccer Schools encourage flair and self expression which is what we all want to see. I wish there had been a scheme like this when I was growing up!”

So bowled over in fact that Andy asked to sponsor BSS Andover and he will be helping out with community projects in the area. Andy has also kindly donated one of his Premiership shirts to be won at the BSS Andover official launch at Harrow Way School. Andy will personally sign the shirt to the lucky winner.

Brazilian Soccer School Salisbury & Andover are currently looking for local business sponsors to help with our coaching programme and community projects. For more information please contact Perry Cocking - 07876135770 or p.cocking@icfds.com
