| “At Brazilian Soccer Schools York & Ripon we are on a journey, a long journey, to make some of the best football players this country has ever seen” Brian MacNair, Head Coach BSS York & Ripon was established in September 2008 and has very quickly established a reputation for delivering excellence in football coaching for children aged 5 – 16 years. The football sessions are good fun, well organised and challenging, where every child has the opportunity to participate and thrive. BSS do not recruit children based on ability but instead believe that good coaching and hard work will ensure that the children will develop into excellent football players in the future. The best players and any outstanding talents will have the opportunity to thrive through 1 to 1 coaching, the BSS York & Ripon Academy, the ICFDS National Squads and links with professional football clubs will give children the best possible opportunity of entering professional football at the most appropriate time in their development. First of all our aim is to help make good people – players soon realise that Brazilian Soccer Schools is much more than just football: we aim to promote social skills, team work, personal goal setting, boost confidence, self esteem and much more. Weekly Sessions All of our weekly sessions follow a similar structure: After a warm up we introduce and practice kick-ups as a way of improving touch and confidence with the ball. It also helps to build determination and encourages a ‘practice-practice-practice’ mentality. Kick-ups form a key element of the skills badge scheme. We then progress to the core skills which improve coordination, dexterity, speed and are also the building blocks to learning many of the moves to beat players. Each player will work individually at first and then in pairs with their own football. The players will then focus on specific skills and over time will be encouraged to increase the speed/intensity of the move, practicing against real defenders to develop the confidence to use the skill in football matches. Depending on the age group / ability of the children the session can incorporate specific passing, shooting, heading and defending drills to continually develop the players. Finally we play a small sided game, encouraging all of the children to use the skills learned in the training session in a real match situation. The programme is supported at every stage through the BSS Skills Badge Scheme, which is used to monitor and reward player progress. Academy Sessions The most talented children attending BSS in both York & Ripon will be invited to attend the weekly Academy Sessions. These sessions are a great way to develop specific skills appropriate to the age group of the children. The BSS Academy philosophy continues to be a supportive and developmental environment where the children will have the opportunity to compete against other talented players but will work at increased intensity to further hone their skills. Any player able to compete 100 kick ups will automatically be invited to the weekly Academy Sessions. BSS National Squads The BSS National Squads are an excellent opportunity for children to compete against the best footballers from across the country. The National Squads are also required to complete a detailed training programme throughout the year and work towards agreed fitness targets. Each year children from age groups under 13, 14, 15 and 16 will be invited to the intensive training courses held at Garforth Football Club. From here the natural (albeit challenging) next stage is to follow in the footsteps of Micah Richards and Theo Walcott into the professional game. 1 : 1 Coaching Sessions Many professional players such as Wayne Rooney and Michael Owen have benefitted from our one-to-one training. Whilst for most our weekly/academy sessions are an ideal introduction, those that want to push on further or work to a specific level such as National Squad level can access our one to one training. Coaching on a one to one level is essentially the same as our other sessions but a special focus is given to the individual needs and technical abilities of the player with a focus on what is required to bridge an identified and agreed skills gap. |
