ICFDS Schools Cup

The Brian Clough Schools Cup is the first ever National Futebol de Salao competition open to all UK Primary Schools. In its inaugural year (academic year 2000 / 2001) schools from England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales competed firstly on a local level, then at a regional level, before the national finals took place at Aston Villa.

Since 2001, the event has been run every year and has grown in size and stature. This tournament has seen football notables such as John Barnes, Peter Taylor and Socrates attend to oversee the matches as well as presenting the winners with their prizes.

The tournament is aimed at year 6 children and is open to both boys and girls. In 2002, a girls only event, the ICFDS Girls Cup, was also introduced to encourage girls to take part as well. Perhaps fittingly as the ICFDS originated in Leeds it was a Leeds based school, Horsforth Newlaithes, which won the inaugural schools cup. The school had benefitted from a series of coaching sessions from ICFDS coaches in the run up to the tournament and perhaps this showed as the team thoroughly deserved their triumph showing some great ability along the way. Subsequent teams from around the UK have gone on to win the events.

The 2011 Schools Cup final will take place in July at Garforth Town Football Club.  Local and regional rounds will take place from March – June and the winning teams will be invited to attend the national finals at Garforth.

“The whole competition was outstanding for skill, spirit and performance. 10/10.” Mr D. Allen, Aughton Primary School.

BSS York & Ripon will be contacting schools in York and Ripon for the 2011 Brian Clough Schools Cup and ICFDS Girls Cup. If you are interested in getting involved contact Brian MacNair, Head Coach.

The ICFDS Girls Cup is a fantastic tournament growing from strength to strength.  In 2005, Garforth Town Football Club, the club owned by SImon Clifford, was the venue for the Girls Cup Final.  This proved to be such a success that the venue has been used for both the ICFDS Girls Cup and the Brian Clough Schools Cup ever since.

BSS York & Ripon are very keen to encourage more girls to play football in York and Ripon and are keen to support this tournament in 2011. If you are interested in getting your school involved contact Brian MacNair, Head Coach.
